I love jazz so much, because its the only music style where you find qualities such as “swinging” , emotion, and “improvising” all at same time. For me singers such as Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Billie Holliday,Nat Cole, Nina Simone, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Harry Connick jr., Diana Krall, Cassandra Wilson, are the main reasons why Jazz still alive.
And it’s a shame that every year, I don’t have the opportunity to see jazz festival in cape verde for some reason. This year, the Kriol jazz festival will be in praia city and pay tribute to Horace Silver. Horace Silver is an american jazz pianist. He is also known for humorous playing style and his contributions for the hard bop (a style of jazz). “Cape verdean Blues” and “Song to my father” are two songs that demonstrates his commitment with Cape verde (where his father was born).

Hi Denise!
I’m a 33 year old woman from Sweden planning to go to Cape Verde island Sal to live and work there. I’ve been there on vacation for 2 weeks and just fell deeply in love with the island and the people living in this relaxing atmosphere. I would be very happy to get some advices from you – as a true Cape Verdian woman – about how the the life is living on the island. I guess you know a little about the European way of living now and maybe you have something to tell me about the differences between the way of living in Cape Verde and in London. I would be very happy if you could contact me by e-mail at malin.happy@hotmail.com. Take care! /Malin
thank you Malin!
yeah sure…i’ll definetly give you some tips about living in cape verde. And to be honest island sal it’s an amazing place to live, you will love to be there (nice wheather, friendly people, nice food, etc.) By the way, do you live in london? or you are in sweden now? I hope one day have the opportunity to go to sweden as well…
keep in touch!
Hi Denise!
I am really looking forward to come to Sal island soon in a few weeks and I have some questions, maybe you can help me with the answers, I would appreciate your comments:
How do you think my life can be living on my own in Cape Verde as a European woman? I mean how is the men behaving when they see a single European woman…:) I know by experience from other African/Asian countries that the men could be a bit rude and tough sometimes.
What do you think about the working opportunities on Sal island or any other Cape Verde island? I am educated as a secretary and have very good skills within service in an office and within the computer area and I really enjoy working with other people and interact with different cultures.
How is the every day life on Cape Verde? Is it hard to get used to the standards there coming from Europe? I don’t expect much and I don’t need much around me, just good people smiling, some happy music and a relaxed atmosphere. But all I know is my life in Europe, so this is why I am asking
I would be so happy to get an e-mail/comment from you telling me little about your experiences from living in both Cape Verde and UK. Thanks a lot!
Kind regards from Malin in Sweden
